There are 15,000 drug addicts on Tehran streets while the drug rehabilitation camps in the province have capacity to house 7,000 addicts, says Tehran police chief Hossein Sajedinia.
The police are ready to round up addicts and send them to rehab camps, but the number of facilities should be increased, ISNA quoted him as saying.
Drug addicts account for half of the minor crimes in the country including drug dealing, pick-pocketing and petty thefts, which creates insecurity among the people, he added.
